Steel Siding

Steel siding is about as tough as an exterior gets. It won't crack in the cold, it's fire-resistant, and its baked-on finish holds color for years.

Why choose steel siding?

Steel siding is made from coated steel panels with a factory-applied, baked-on finish. Unlike vinyl, it doesn't get brittle in cold weather, so it won't crack from an impact on a January day.

It's noncombustible, it won't rot, and pests can't chew through it. The factory finish is designed to resist chalking and fading, and many profiles come with wood-grain textures as well as smooth, modern looks.

Steel is available in classic horizontal lap profiles and in vertical board-and-batten styles that have become popular on modern farmhouse homes. Steel can dent from heavy hail, so finish and gauge selection matter.

Steel Siding: common questions

Something we didn’t cover? Call (630) 901-6361 and ask Anna directly.

Does steel siding rust?

Steel siding is galvanized and protected by a baked-on finish, which keeps it from rusting in normal conditions. Deep scratches that reach bare steel should be touched up.

Is steel siding noisy in the rain?

Not noticeably. Siding is installed over sheathing, house wrap and often insulation, which dampens sound. It isn't like a metal roof on an open barn.

Steel or aluminum siding?

Steel is stronger and more dent-resistant than aluminum siding, which is why it's the more common choice for new metal siding today.

Can steel siding look like wood?

Yes. Many steel profiles have realistic wood-grain textures and wood-tone finishes, as well as smooth modern looks.
